In the folder I have files that I’m currently editing, I’m noticing some extraneous files being added with the extension of .$$$ like 0c0fd35a1ee5e500.$$$ Anybody know what these are? Can I have them placed in another location? Thanks!

These files disappear when you quit WaveLab.
If they don’t, you can safely erase them.
If you don’t want them while running WaveLab, you have to disable this feature:
