Latency between playback and record based on VST Performer buffer size?

I am running Nuendo 10.2.10 Build 301 on Windows 10 Pro, Version 1903, OS Build 18362.900

Any idea why adjusting the Performer side Buffer Size setting would influence the recording latency?
