[Solved] Access violation, what have I done :)

So I finally get around to using Groove Agent 4.

I start it stand alone, loads fine, I select Blues Essentials but the sounds have a “no entry” sign next to them.

So I try the other sound pack I bought, Future Electronica, this time the files seem to be there. I try to load a sound and it crashes.

Now it refuses to start, crashes while loading.

In the end, I reinstalled it but it is still crashing when starting.

I finally tried launching it from within Cubase (new empty project), but it bought up a window saying

“A serious problem has occurred. Please try to save your project under another name…”

Running latest version 4.2.40

C drive is for systems only (except when software insist putting stuff there)
D drive has Documents, VST32, VST64 and VSTSOUND directories
E drive has all my programs such as Cubase, Groove agent etc.

In Documents/Steinberg/CrashDumps

Groove agent has a text file which says the following every time I’ve started it

Just tried completely uninstalling Grove agent 4 and Grove Agent Content.

Then re-downloaded the full install and the 4.2.40.322 update.

Installed them both but still getting the same crash on starting

I’ve fixed it (although don’t know what caused it)
i completely uninstalled Grove Agent4 and Grove Agent Content again

Then had a look around.

In C:\Users\Joe\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg I deleted the two directories

Grove Agent_64
Grove Agent Standalone_64

Re-installed Grove Agent and the patch, was a little worried as these two directories didn’t reappear, but as soon as I started it, they did. Had to reselect ASIO and now all appears fine.

I’ve tried both stand alone and running it from within Cubase, both now fine.

Hello!

I recognise that this thread is somewhat old … however, what did you use to read the Cubase “.dmp” log file?

I have a persistent Cubase 10.5 issue which Steinberg haven’t responded to in over a week and I have a project due in on Monday afternoon.

Thank you for any advice/guidance you can provide.

PS I tried a publicly-available Microsoft debugging tool … but it didn’t want to read this particular .dmp file.

Try WinDbg

I make mods and stuff for games and I use Microsoft Visual studio which is free in the microsoft store. If you don’t have Windows i’m sure there’s a fair alternative
