Kind of cool to see GDC clip posted by Steinberg, very short appearance of Nuendo 10 -- do we know which guy at the booth is Timo?!?!

That is an important question for me. My system is so trouble free and crash proof on Windows 7 64 the upgrade to N10 would have to be irresistibly compelling if it did not support Windows 7.

My DAW is a completely dedicated system used for music production. Why would I update to Windows 10 since the only thing Windows does is provide a shell platform for Nuendo which works wonderfully problem-free on Windows 7?

Well, Cubase 10 system requirements state: Windows 7 (64-bit), Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Windows 10 (64-bit) -- (scroll down to system requirements -- https://new.steinberg.net/cubase/compare-editions/ ) -- so considering that Nuendo 10 and Cubase 10 are supposed to be on the same sequencer development calendar/path/whatever now, I think it's pretty reasonable to guess that Nuendo 10 will support Windows 7 64 bit too.

On the other hand, Microsoft will end Windows 7 support in general supposedly on January 14, 2020 -- https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ry-14-2020 -- so unless that changes, do you really want to be running Windows 7 anyway? Your risk of continuing to use Windows 7 beyond January 14, 2020 will get kind of dicey. Yikes.

On the other hand again, it's expected that a huge percentage of computers will still be running Windows 7... so it seems like it's a game of chicken between Microsoft and the users who want to keep using Windows 7. Who is going to blink first? Maybe Microsoft will postpone the retirement?

On the other hand again (am I on the third or fourth hand by now, lol?), Windows 10 is working just fine for DAW work.

For what it's worth, my latest Windows 10 machine is running about as good as any Windows 7 DAW I ever built, at the peak of my Windows 7 stability. And it sure is easier/faster to reinstall Windows 10 in the occasional instances when I want a totally clean OS installation from scratch again.

I'd suggest trying out Windows 10 on a different boot drive and seeing how it works for your needs... you might be okay... don't make the leap all at once, but give it a shot. You have until January 2020 to see how it works for you.

My DAW is a completely dedicated system used for music production. Why would I update to Windows 10 since the only thing Windows does is provide a shell platform for Nuendo which works wonderfully problem-free on Windows 7?
I was also very reluctant to change from W7 to W10, but was recently convinced to do it for two reasons:

1. W7 is coming to the end of its life-cycle.
2. The next version of W10 does away with the current FLS limit of 128 by increasing the limit to over 4000! This has been done by Microsoft for the benefit of DAW users. I'm sure you know this, but the FLS limit governs the number of DLL/plugins that can be added to a project. With more and more productions being done entirely ITB there is a requirement to use a greater number of plugins. Steinberg have been steadily eating away at the number of FLS slots available for plugins with every recent update, which was becoming an issue for some Nuendo/Cubase users. So the upcoming W10 update is a Godsend.

In antisssssipation of this update I decided to get ready for it by moving from W7 to W10. I've experienced no issues at all. N7.1.40 and N8.1.10 are running fine (except perhaps for some Nuendo bugs that are nothing to do with Windows).

NB. I can't move to N8.2 and beyond because the introduction of 16 Inserts in N8.2.0 makes Nuendo incompatible with my control surface (again, nothing to do with Windows).

If you want more info on the FLS limit, just google 'Windows FLS Limit'.

I think this is a big deal for DAW users and it will only be available in Windows-10.

Hello guys,

I'd like to give you a heads-up on where we are at the moment. We're in the well-advanced beta phase of the N10 project.
That said, and as I mentioned in another thread already, we won't be able to provide ALL the new features with the initial
Nuendo 10.0 version.

ARA and Cue Sheet support is expected for Nuendo 10.1 (closely after the initial release)
Video Rendering is expected for Nuendo 10.2 due to extended test phase (planned early Q3 2019)

We're also preparing a completely new website at the moment, comprising of great product information, videos and awesome
interviews. There are dozens of people in 5 different departments working on the launch at the moment.

If we stick to the plan (which I hope), the launch of NUENDO 10 is less than 5 weeks from now.

Thanks,
Timo

Thanks, Timo! Between you, Matthias, Ed, and others at Steinberg who have been more open and communicative recently, this is the kind of update and inside info that many of us really appreciate. Ed even gave an estimated patch release date for Cubase 10.0.20 recently, along with a preview of hitpoint detection improvements (which I'm assuming will also show up in Nuendo 10). Really good communication recently. Big thumbs up for all of that info.

Personally, it gives me a sense that someone at Steinberg figured out that in this day and age, more communication like this is very helpful for customer relations, and gives more credibility to the marketing claims that Steinberg is listening to its customers. Please keep it up. And looking forward to Nuendo 10!

If you don't happen to have a legacy nvidia Quadro graphics card in your machine, there really isn't a reason why you shouldn't switch to W10.

Windows 7 is getting extended support for security updates to 2023... for a fee

$50. the first year
$100 the second and
$200 USD the third.

https://rcpmag.com/articles/2019/03/04/ ... sions.aspx

So those who are fortunate enough to have crash free Windows 7 machines can keep on chugging along with their existing produciton boxes.

It hasn't been announced yet, but we do know that the upgrade prices will be lower than before, according to Timo:

prices for all updates will be lower compared to previous versions.
If all goes to plan, we only have to wait until about mid-May to find out everything, also according to Timo on April 11:

I, am a longtime user of Cubase. And that, now that offers Steinberg, it is really interesting.
To expand a circle of the opportunities with an additional power of Nuendo. However finally to overcome the doubts in necessity of this step, I tried to set Nuendo 8 trial. But after several attempts, I didn't receive the link to downloading. Whether someone can explain to me what occurs. It is technical failure or something else...? And whether it is worth trying still? I am at loss.
