Since I generally don’t enter chords this way, I don’t know if this is how it has always worked or is it some new problem. Hopefully someone else will chime in that does know.
As a kinda workaround you could draw in the chords where you want them. Then open the Chord Editor on the first one. At the bottom is a control to turn on MIDI input, enable this. Then play the desired chord, use the right arrow to move to the next chord and play that - repeat on remaining Chord Events.
