Yes, that’s totally possible and you use the right words: wait with activating until the next version is there. It doesn’t matter when you buy the current version - the grace period is based on the activation date.
And if you want to try it out anyway, there’s always the 30-day trial period… (just get the temporary license for that, don’t use the activation code you have now)
