I don’t know if this will be any help, but Daniel at Steinberg in the following thread suggested it’s probably because of corrupted fonts on the system, so suggests opening the Font Book application, select all the fonts, and run Validate Fonts from the menu, and repair any problem found. It doesn’t take very long to run, and might help.
