Working with Unpitched Percussion

Hello everyone,

I’m new to Dorico (longtime Sibelius user, new Dorico fan…) and I’m writing a piece for multiple unpitched percussion instruments. What I’d like to do is to create a five-line staff for woodblocks, let’s say, and map each of the lines to a specific sound in HALion Sonic SE. This way, I can pick sounds that are close to five different pitches of woodblocks within HALion, and use them for playback.

I’ve been trying to follow the Dorico videos and manual, and I’ve been unsuccessful in finding a step-by-step process to make this work, maybe because I’m new to working with notation programs and percussion. (Generally before I just ignored the playback and just imagined it in my head…)

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thank you -

George

Hi George!

I suggest you try and read carefully this post : How does mapping work? - #11 by dspreadbury - Dorico - Steinberg Forums

Daniel explains it all there and there are useful links, I would never have been as clear as he is!
Hope this helps!

Amazing! I will check it out. Thank you!
