Recommended laptop models

I am using a ASUS G74 with the Intel Core I-7, two internal 500g 7200 rpm drives and 16gb of ram. Our live sets use about 5-6gb of VST loaded instruments. I am very pleased with the G74 for its ability to handle a large load, although it is a very heavy laptop, but the processing power was more important to me. We record about 4 stereo tracks and 2 mono tracks, plus I use Mobius looper. We use Cubase 7 and a Steinberg UR824. I do record to an external hard drive and the extra internal one is used for the VST instrument sounds. Gary

Two of us (posts on page 2 of this thread) are very happy with the HP 8460p. It's very powerful and with the Expresscard slot you canadd a TI chipset firewire card or other peripheral.
Comp1: Windows 7 64bit, Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, Intel I7 970, 12 gig Patriot DDR3 ram, RME Digiface, Geoforce 66000 PCIe, , Cubase 6.5
Comp 2:Windows 7 64bit, Asus P5W DH Deluxe, Q6600, 8 gig Corsair XMS ram, , MR816 X(x2) VE Pro

1. Hewlett Packard (HP)
2. EliteBook 8770w (17")
3. Win 7 Pro x64
4. Quad-core i7 3820QM @ 2.70 Ghz (3.70 Ghz max OC)
5. 16 GB (32 max)
6. 256 GB SSD + 1 TB 7200 rpm (both internal)
7. RME Babyface
8. Cubase 7/Cakewalk Sonar X2
9. Soundtracks (portable rig)

Flawless performance. This is one monster of a laptop, the best I've ever used. The 17" 1080p display (1920x1080) is just about the best screen you can desire on a laptop. Perfect combination of large size and high resolution (a friend of mine has a Surface Pro and 1920x1080 on a 10" screen is simply ridiculous. You'd need a magnifier to see anything!)

Even tried hooking it up to my studio's RME UFX via Firewire and it works perfectly (which means it's OK to use with FW interfaces, unlike many other PC laptops.)
Desktop: i7 3770k, 32 GB RAM, nVidia GTX680, 3 monitors, 256 GB SSD (OS), 2 TB SATA III (audio), 3 TB SATA III (sample libraries), 3x 3 TB USB 3.0 (backup/archives), RME UFX, Win 7 Pro x64, Cubase 7, Sonar X2

Slaves: 2x i7 2700k, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, 3 TB SATA III, Win 7 Pro x64, Vienna Ensemble Pro 5.

Laptop: 17" HP EliteBook 8770w (i7 3820QM 2.7 Ghz/3.7 Ghz max OC, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, 1 TB SATA III), RME Babyface, Win 7 Pro x64, Vienna Ensemble Pro 5, Cubase 7, Sonar X2.
