fx to clip in plug in top turns red

I can use plugins in the master fader monty all is good, but when I install plugins to individual clips the plugin loads but the top border is red not blue and the plug in has no effect.I know Ive done it as I moved thing around in order to find my UAD2 plugs (still don't have them) I use Wave7 64 win7 64 N5.5 , also all is good in N5.5 uad2 and all. Is there an in depth study on the paths for plugins that might leave me feeling a bit more at ease with these locations.shorly all 64 bit plugins should be in one place for all steinberg products, 32 bit allso.
