Unable to connect to the eLicenser server

Unable to connect to the eLicenser server

Postby buffyduffy » Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:51 am

I'm getting the apparently-not-so-rare "Updating eLicenser License Database" error, which says "A connection to the license server could not be established, either due to incorrect network settings, etc".

This appears to be the case for adding a new activation code, performing steps 1, 5 and 6 of the maintenance routine as well as running the Recovery tool.

I have tried stripping my connection down to a bare minimum: bypassing the router and connecting directly to the modem while disabling both Windows Firewall as well as the AVG Resident Shield. The problem also persists in Safe Mode with Networking - while the soft-eLicenser is disabled because the driver isn't loaded, maintenance and recovery still result in the same error message. There are no other connection-related applications/services running on my computer.

My country isn't directly supported by Steinberg, which means I need to contact my local distributor whom I cannot reach. I've been at this for 24 hours now, which seems an awful long time for the database server to be down if that really is the case. The problem is that I don't have an alternate internet connection where I can install the licenser software readily available.

Can anyone verify that the license server is/has been up and running and what further steps can I take to make this work? Now that I finally have the software (Cubase 6), I would like to use it and since I've had zero other network issues on my computers (desktop and laptop), I cannot help but blame either the dongle, licensing software or Steinberg. Of these three, the dongle seems to be working just fine.

I'm sorry if this is not an approprate place to post this question, but I honestly do not know where else to do so.

Thank you for a quick response - I'll try one other solution in case it's actually my ISP who is to be blamed here. If that doesn't pan out, I'll send the email.

Hello,

you could try to download also on an other computer. Just download and install the latest version of the eLicenser Control Center on the computer and enter the activation code. The license activation doesn't need to been done on the computer where you also have Cubase installed.

Cheers,

Chris

I am having the same problem, I cannot download the license and get a 'connection' error. What is very strange is that I have tried both my purchased version and the trial codes, on two different PC/connections and neither work.

Help please

And please don't tell me to retry. I've trtied at least 400 times, don't tell me to try on another computer, I'm not gonna meet all of my neibhors to get this software running, FIX YOUR SERVER

I can confirm.

Maintenance maybe?

It has to happen from time to time.

And you do realize you're probably not going to get a response here until at least Monday (in Germany), if at all?

GA3 even comes with the Trial version of Cubase so therefore should already be active and available providing you have a license for Cubase 6.

I am also unable to connect to the server. One of two things:

1. The server is down for maintenance
2. The server sucks

I am inclined to think the latter

I have the same problem.

Just started Cubase 6 and it said no valid license etc

Managed to get it started by manually downloading the latest elicenser update.

my Halion 4 demo ran out on the 5th of may, and I wanted to do maintenance to remove it, but it's failing to
connect to server.

It says e.g due to maintenance, but it says nothing on the elicenser website.

Oh and my user name has changed from paa099 to paa009 what the hell

Try:
In the support menu
"Clean up e-licenser memory"

That doesn't need a server connection.

Just tried it! Still hasn't removed the expired version of Halion 4

My other thought is that I don't think you can.

It's a one demo per dongle deal. Period.

I might be wrong though.

Well, not so long ago I had the yamaha plugins from steinberg on trial. When the time was up I just performed maintenance and that removed the expired licenses.

Okay.
I was basing my hypothesis on the "software e-licenser".
Granted that thing has almost unlimited memory.

Have you tried clicking on the license and (in the actions menu) clicking "remove license"?

Greyed out.

I'm not that bothered ATM because everybody seems to be having problems with the elicenser.
