broken dongle

Postby bluntslide_35 » Tue Feb 12, 2013 7:35 pm

I am (was) running cubase 6.5 on my laptop. Recently, as I was removing my elicenser from my computer, it basicly broke in half! Now I dont know what to do. I live in the US. My cubase license is on that dongle. I'm not sure who to contact.

I believe in situations like this you will have to contact support (open a ticket through your MySteinberg account) and hope for the best. You will most likely need to send in the broken dongle.

I hope you had it registered, otherwise you're probably screwed.

When you get your new dongle it might be a good idea to connect it to your laptop using a short USB extension lead.
Windows 7 64-bit, AMD Phenom II X4 955, GeForce 9500 GT video, 2 x 977GB SAMSUNG HD103SJ SATA drives, ESI ESP1808 Audio, Cubase 7 64-bit

from the Steinberg website...

https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/usb-elicensersteinberg-key-details-tips-and-troubleshooting.html#lk
broke my USB-eLicenser!

You need to buy a new empty USB-eLicenser.
Please make sure that the defective key has been registered in MySteinberg before contacting us for any license replacement.
The new activation code(s) can then be downloaded to the new USB-eLicenser using the License Control Center.

See if this helps. If you are in a large enough market, your local music/audio store can sell you a new dongle.

Steinberg hooked me up with an answer just an hour ago. I had the same problem. Here;s your solution! (and i didn't use the free 25 hour serial either. Enjoy!

If you cannot tell me an activation code with which you've downloaded a
license onto the USB-eLicenser, there is another possibility to retrieve
its number. It might be noted in the log file
"POS_Used_eLicenser_Serialnumbers.log" on a computer to which the
USB-eLicenser has been connected. If present, the file is located here:

- Mac OS X: /Library/Logs/eLicenser/
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\eLicenser\Logs\
- Windows Vista or later: C:\ProgramData\eLicenser\Logs\

Furthermore, you can create a support file via the eLicenser Control
Center by selecting "Creat Support File" from the "Support" menu.

Please send me the files.

Just to provide an interim solution, here's an activation code with which
you can download an universal temporary license onto your blank
USB-eLicenser:

0240 7CYF IYWS IAJA SPFD IB00 1197 8431

It will expire after 25 operating hours, so make sure to quit all
Steinberg applications if you don't use them.

Kind Regards,
