cubase with the right chipset

cubase with the right chipset

Postby hibernated » Mon Feb 04, 2013 4:38 am

Hello,

Some years ago, I remember we had to choose a motherboard with an Intel chipset, because it worked much better than motherboards using the Via chipset, which caused many problems with the audio interfaces, and of course, the sequencer.

I soon will be assembling a new computer, to replace my old setup, based on an old 2.66MHz Pentium 4.

Is it okay, today, to use an Intel, via, nvidia, etc based motherboard, with windows 7 64bit? Or is there a chipset that works much better than the others, with cubase and any audio interfaces ?

I want to get a Intel i7 3770k processor, which is not that expensive, compared to any Xeon processor, and still performs perfectly well.

So please, guys, could you do me a favor and tell me which motherboard you are using, which ram(exact brand, type and frequency, for example, Geil evo corsa 2400), the audio interface you have, with the actual buffer size, the windows version you have(windows 7 or 8, 32 or 64bit), and also the hard drive type(sata3,ssd,SCSI, raid).

It would be really nice to know what your PC setups are, so I can build a nice and stable PC, for using with the cubase 7 I will be buying this month, or until the end of march.in advance, a big Thanks.
GOD, please give me a little help and motivation.

cubase 7 - classic intel or new Amd FX 8350

Postby hibernated » Mon Feb 04, 2013 4:44 am

Hi ,cubase people,

Just another question (as I said on my first post, there would be a few ones ... :) )

I guess 80-90+ % of cubase users here have Intel based setups, because these last years, they simply atomized the competition, with their processors. But lately, I've checked some reviews about the latest amd fx 8350 processor, with 8 cores, and for the first time, the amd processor did as well as the Intel 3770k, and in some tests, in the benchmarks, it even did a bit better that Intel, specially on all the applications optimized for multi CPU tasks.

Are there any people here using cubase along with the amd fx 8350 processor? Is cubase 6-6.5-7 using every MHz of all the 8 cores? Are you happy with the overall performance, if you compare with your previous setup, probably based on an Intel processor? Or your current experience with the amd processors isn't the best one, and you're planning to go back to Intel?

In advance, thanks.
GOD, please give me a little help and motivation.

I am using an A10-5800K and it works great with the onboard GPU but I don't want to buy Cubase 7 until enough bugs are fixed (which I think will be very soon).
