Cubase 4

Surround

Unlike many other DAW programs that merely mix mono or stereo signals in a multi-channel bus, Cubase 4 features a full-fledged multi-channel audio signal path from input to output. You can generate multi-channel Surround files as soon as you start recording, and then edit and mix these tracks using multi-channel-enabled mixer channel strips. In fact, you can process and mix any number of mono, stereo and multi-channel signals within a project. That goes for the entire signal path, including effects busses and groups.

An individual mixer channel can accommodate a complete Surround mix or a single speaker channel that is part of a Surround configuration. The Mixer’s SurroundPan function provides a graphical view for arrange channels in the Surround field. In Cubase 4, you can use multi-channel-enabled plug-ins that were developed especially for mixing Surround sound. Several of these plug-ins ship as part of the Cubase 4 package. All VST3 PlugIns in Cubase 4 are fully surround capable and can adjust their number of audio busses to the channel they're inserted to (mono, stereo, 5.1, etc.).

Cubase 4 also supports MP3 surround, the latest achievement in audio compression.
