Press Reviews for Cubase 4

Music Tech Magazine (UK) Nov 2006

MTM Excellence Award 10/10
There are so many areas of improvement that there really is something here for everyone, and the chances are that at least one of the new features will be something that's essential to you. For many Mac users this will take the form of Intel compatibility, and practically everyone will benefit from SoundFrame and the new audio effects. Happily, the introduction of all this hasn't compromised Cubase's ease of use, and it's still extremely intuitive and friendly to operate.
Verdict: A comprehensive and considered update package with major new features, all of which serve to make this undoubtedly the best and most powerful version of Cubase to date.

Cubase 4: Best Sequencer Keys Reader Award
Cubase 4 is a major update, and is worth it for any Cubase SX user. The new effects, HALion One with its high-quality sounds as well as SoundFrame with the MediaBay are all features that you wouldn’t want to do without anymore.

Musikkpraksis (Norway) 6/2006

One of the most important things for many users is you can use Cubase 4 on Intel Macs. But the program itself has received a proper face-lift, like a nice new "look" and new improvements to the overall workflow and lots of small changes to an already excellent user interface. A brand new collection of VST3 plug-ins and softsynths of good quality is also now included! Too-many-to-mention small details are also very welcome – like the possibility to set Key Commands to "Enable/Disable Track". If you liked Cubase already, you will not be disappointed with the new Cubase 4. Well done Steinberg!

Mac World (Sweden) Dec 2006

Steinberg have really put some time and effort on this update and I must say that Cubase 4 is the most exiting that has happened since Cubase VST became SX.

MM Musikermagasinet (Sweden) 1/2007

Steinberg have made a heavy update to Cubase and once again showed that they listen to their users. Even without the improved usability, the new VST plugs and instruments are well worth the increased price.

Keyboards-Recording (France) December 2006

It ’s truly a major revision which is proposed by Steinberg with this version 4. Cubase 4 is for sure a 'does-it-all' tool, and goes to higher pro levels with its quality of processing and instruments, and with a its full set of new or optimized functions. […] MediaBay, with his multiple file attributes, is a major progress for those of us who stack tons of loops, synth presets, effect presets, videos, projects, midi files, on their hard disks.

PCM Computer (Netherlands) Dec 2006

Cubase 4 is a complete studio in ONE box - in practice we have learned that Cubase 4 is a more than successful upgrade from SX3. The new plug-ins are a fantastic addition but above all, we love the enhancements in usability. The GUI looks more simple in spite of the addition of many functionalities ... Cubase 4 is a virtual production studio complete with instruments, a gigantic effects rack, a giant of a digital mixing desk, recording gear, post-production features, we could carry on. Cubase 4 is Steinberg's best upgrade since the introduction of Cubase SX!

Beat (Germany) 12/06

The great-sounding virtual instruments and over 30 new effects alone justify an update from SX2 or SX3 … but the additional features such as Control Room, SoundFrame and MediaBay also make the update worthwhile. The manuals are, as usual, exemplary and comprehensive. Buyers of the new Cubase version receive an extremely powerful sequencer with modern features, excellent sound generation components and effects as well as an ergonomic architecture that can be adapted to suit the individual.

Professional Audio (Germany) Christmas Edition

Steinberg has understood how to interpret the sign of the times and gets the first prize for ease-of-use. The developers have understood how to make something that’s good either even better or to extend it, [depending upon your point of view]. Taking the phrase “time is money” to its logical conclusion, Cubase 4 users now saves users both. The new plug-ins should make the sequencer more attractive. The value for money is very good.

PC + Musik (Germany) 1/07

Steinberg sends an absolutely top-quality program into the fray. Powerful new features, extended functionality and a quicker working speed look set to intimidate the opposition … the real highlights are the new features like SoundFrame, Instrument Tracks - and not forgetting the fantastic new VST3 plug-ins.

Interface (Netherlands) 12/06

Cubase is not a monster, it's more then a monster in a positive way … Cubase has grown over the last 16 years from a MIDI sequencer to a complete digital production studio. The 2006 version is, in my opinion, a great version that’s worth updating to.

Amazona Online

Cubase 4 includes an array of new functions that make everyday production work easier. First off, SoundFrame is a hit! After a short period of time getting into it, you have a powerful tool that gives you quick access to all relevant media files on your system. [It’s] a feature that you can’t live without once you’ve used it. Working with SoundFrame is fun, especially the ability to preview sounds without loading the plug-in itself, and previewing loops in context. The new plug-ins all sound good and win you over with their uniform, posh black look. It’s praiseworthy that with HALion One, Mystic, Spector and Prologue, a range of good sound generation modules have been integrated [into Cubase].
